How the wardrobe was created. Part Six: Glass
The last thing that was done with the cabinet in the workshop (before checking, packing and shipping) was to insert glass into it. On the one hand, for masters this is a simple, familiar matter, on the other hand, it requires great care and skill.
But the project coordinator had a chance to face complexity. In the glasses that we invented for our cabinet, two types of processing are used: engraving and etching. There is no particular trick in either, but the fact is that not a single Kharkov glass company is engaged in both of these types at once. Engraving is done by some, etching by others, respectively - there is a difficulty in coordination, logistics and delivery.
Last time we started talking about the glazing of the cabinet.
A company that works with glass first (cuts out glass and engraves) ceases to be responsible for it at the moment when it falls to the masters of another company. It’s approximately the same as if you undertake to repair the washing machine or microwave yourself, the manufacturer will withdraw its warranty.
And vice versa, the company number 2, which does the etching, can only be responsible for its part of the work, but not for the quality of the glass itself. But in the end, all sides coped with the task perfectly, and we got beautiful glasses in which a neat narrow engraving is beautifully complemented by a narrow satin (etched) strip. We used ordinary, not “diamond” glass, but due to a) its quality and b) correctly exposed light it does not green (which sometimes happens with ordinary glass).
