The most important part in creating an excellent interior is occupied by correctly selected furniture.

For all comers, it’s wonderful to understand the furniture theme and navigate the existing interior styles, we recommend paying attention to 4 books. They will allow you to study stylistics and plunge a little into the history of design.

1. "Furniture styles." The author - Dyulya Kes.        The book examines the history of furniture. The work was created in 1979 by a designer from Hungary, Dulia Kes. He knew furniture art very well and shared his knowledge with us. From the moment the book was created and until now it has been justifiably popular, and quotes have been used for textbooks on interiors and furniture. The style of writing a book is similar to a textbook. The author easily narrates, paying particular attention to technical aspects. Reading this book, you can immediately understand that it was written by a true master of his craft, and not by the layman. The paper explains important terms. For convenience, there is a dictionary at the end of the book. “Furniture styles”, rightfully, can be called a classic in the field of historical books on furniture.        It is noteworthy that the book was reprinted several times. But, unfortunately, the publishers did not attach much importance to the illustrations. In 1979, in the first edition, the quality of the illustration left much to be desired. Today, we recommend that you purchase a book with beautiful illustrations. So the information will definitely be perceived much better.

2. “Furniture. All styles from antiquity to the present. ” Posted by Judith Miller

Without a doubt, this book is one of the most comprehensive, detailed and beautiful works on the theme of furniture. It examines the 3,000-year-old historical path of furniture. The author conducts a detailed excursion into furniture history and relates to modern styles. In addition, the book is beautifully illustrated (3000 shots). It should be said that there are no clear examples in the book. Therefore, if you are only getting acquainted with furniture history, then this work of Miller is not entirely suitable. It will be difficult to perceive. The fact is that Miller is not just a historian, but also an antique dealer. For example, some eras are too briefly considered. But those moments that are related to collecting are detailed - an analysis of price gradations for antiques, firms selling antiques, etc. For those who are just getting acquainted with collecting, it is better to pay attention to Miller's work entitled "All About Antiques."

3. "Furniture styles." The author is Heinrich Gatsura.      Heinrich Gatsura has a series of books entitled “The History of Furniture Art in Graphics, Sketches and Drawings”. So, the book “Furniture Styles” is included in this cycle. It must be emphasized that the story is narrated quite superficially. This is due to the fact that Gatsura is a writer (in particular, in the field of science fiction), and not a historian. Particular attention is paid to various variations of furniture. The main point in the book is, nevertheless, not the story itself, but its illustration. In the work, various pieces of furniture, existing fittings, suitable details are traced in detail. Thanks to the illustrations, the book is an excellent guide for furniture designers as well as for restorers. This publication is most likely of an applied nature. This is confirmed by the presence at the end of the book of tables with wood species that were relevant in different times. Also, we recommend that you pay attention to other works by Gatsura - “Light and Styles”, “Doors and Styles”, etc. His two-volume book is also famous, in which measurements of furniture from the late 18th to the middle of the 19th century are considered.
